The Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway was a specialized immigration pathway under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) designed to help Alberta employers recruit and retain highly skilled technology professionals. Eligible candidates with an active Express Entry profile and a qualifying job offer in Alberta’s technology sector could receive priority processing for provincial nomination, leading to Canadian Permanent Residence.

 

The Accelerated Tech Pathway was introduced to address labour shortages in Alberta’s rapidly growing technology industry. It provided an expedited provincial nomination process for skilled foreign workers employed in eligible technology occupations with Alberta-based technology employers.

Successful applicants received an Alberta provincial nomination, adding 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points to their Express Entry profile and significantly increasing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residence.

Eligibility for the AAIP Accelerated Tech Pathway

Applicants generally needed to satisfy the following conditions.

Maintain an active profile under Canada's Express Entry system. Qualify under FSWP, CEC, or FSTP.

Applicants needed a valid full-time job offer or current employment with an Alberta employer in one of the province's approved technology occupations. The position had to be genuine, ongoing, and aligned with Alberta's labour market needs.

The job offer or current employment had to be in one of Alberta's designated technology occupations. Eligible occupations typically included software development, information technology, cybersecurity, data analytics, computer engineering, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and other approved tech-related fields.

The employer had to operate in an approved Alberta technology industry and meet the requirements established by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The employment had to comply with provincial labour standards and support Alberta's economic priorities.

Applicants were generally expected to possess the education, qualifications, or professional credentials required for their occupation. Foreign educational credentials often required an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) unless exempt under federal Express Entry requirements.

Applicants had to meet the minimum language requirements of their qualifying federal Express Entry program by submitting valid English or French language test results from an approved testing agency.

Applicants needed relevant skilled work experience related to their technology occupation. Work experience requirements were based on the federal Express Entry program under which the applicant qualified.

Applicants had to demonstrate a genuine intention to live and work permanently in Alberta and contribute to the province's growing technology sector.

• Mutual Agreement: The job offer or contract must be signed by both you and your Alberta employer.                               
• Detailed Employment Terms: It should clearly outline all details of your employment.                                               • Full-Time and Continuous: The position must be full-time and continuous, lasting at least 12 months.      • Competitive Compensation: The wage or salary must meet or exceed the provincial minimum wage and comply with any requirements specified in a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), if applicable.                                  • Industry Standards: If an LMIA is not applicable, the offered wage must meet or surpass the starting wage for your occupation across all industries in Alberta.
