What is the Federal Skilled Trades Program?
The Federal Skilled Trades Program is one of the three federal immigration programs managed through Canada's Express Entry system. It is specifically designed for qualified tradespeople with practical work experience in eligible skilled trades. Unlike other Express Entry programs, FSTP places greater emphasis on trade qualifications and hands-on experience rather than formal education.Eligible candidates are ranked in the Express Entry pool based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), and those with competitive scores may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residence.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify under the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria related to their trade skills, work experience, language ability, and employment or certification.
Skilled Trade Work Experience:
Applicants must have at least two years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid work experience in an eligible skilled trade within the last five years. The experience must match the duties of the occupation listed under Canada's National Occupation Classification (NOC)
Eligible Skilled Trade Occupation:
To qualify under the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), your work experience must be in an eligible skilled trade classified under TEER 2 or TEER 3 of Canada's National Occupation Classification (NOC) system. Your work experience must fall within one of the eligible skilled trade groups recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), including:
• Construction Trades.
• Industrial, Electrical, and Equipment Trades.
• Maintenance and Equipment Operation Trades.
• Supervisors and Technical Occupations in Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Related Production.
• Processing, Manufacturing, and Utilities Supervisors and Central Control Operators.
• Chefs, Cooks, Bakers, Butchers, and Other Eligible Trade Occupations.
Language Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate language proficiency through an approved language test.
Minimum language requirements are generally:
• CLB 5 for Speaking and Listening.
• CLB 4 for Reading and Writing.
Accepted language tests include IELTS General, CELPIP General, TEF Canada, and TCF Canada.
Job Offer or Certificate of Qualification
Applicants must have either:
• A Valid Full-Time Job Offer for at Least One Year from One or Two Canadian Employers.
OR
• A Certificate of Qualification in Their Skilled Trade Issued by a Canadian Provincial, Territorial, or Federal Authority.
Admissibility Requirements
Applicants and accompanying family members must be admissible to Canada by meeting all medical, criminal, and security requirements established by IRCC.
