FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER (F.S.W)

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of Canada’s leading economic immigration pathways for skilled professionals with foreign work experience. Managed under the Express Entry system, this program allows qualified individuals to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence based on factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, and other selection criteria.

Whether you’re an experienced professional seeking better career opportunities or planning a new life in Canada, the Federal Skilled Worker Program offers a clear pathway toward permanent settlement.

Who Can Apply?

Federal Skilled Worker Program suitable for:
• Skilled Professionals with Foreign Work Experience.
• Individuals with Recognized Educational Qualifications.
• Applicants Who Meet the Required Language Proficiency.
• Professionals Seeking Permanent Employment and Settlement in Canada.
• Candidates Who Satisfy the Minimum Eligibility Requirements Under the Express Entry System.

Federal Skilled Worker Selection Factors

Applicants are assessed on six key selection factors:

• Education.
• Language Ability.
• Skilled Work Experience.
• Age.
• Arranged Employment (If Applicable).
• Adaptability.

A minimum score of 67 out of 100 is generally required to qualify for the program.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must have at least one year of continuous, full-time (or an equivalent amount of part-time) paid work experience in a skilled occupation within the last 10 years. The work experience must fall under an eligible TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation as defined by Canada's National Occupation Classification (NOC).

Applicants must demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively in either English or French by taking an approved language test such as IELTS General Training, CELPIP General, TEF Canada, or TCF Canada. A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 in all four language abilities—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—is generally required.

If your education was completed outside Canada, you must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a designated organization. The ECA confirms that your foreign educational qualification is equivalent to a Canadian credential and allows you to claim education points under the program.

Before entering the Express Entry system, applicants must score at least 67 out of 100 points on the Federal Skilled Worker selection grid. Points are awarded based on six factors: education, language proficiency, skilled work experience, age, arranged employment, and adaptability.

Unless exempt (for example, if you have a valid job offer and authorization to work in Canada), applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources to support themselves and their accompanying family members after arriving in Canada. The required amount depends on the size of the family.

All applicants and accompanying family members must be admissible to Canada. This includes completing medical examinations, providing police clearance certificates where required, and meeting Canada's security and immigration requirements. Failure to meet admissibility criteria may result in the application being refused.
